BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance

Blog: Kicking off the New Year with LIVE Performances!

January 10, 2014

Our company wants to wish all of you a very Happy New Year! As a loyal fan and supporter of BodyStories: Teresa Fellion Dance, we want to thank you for a lively, action-packed 2013!! We are fortunate to have had great performance opportunities at Jazz at Lincoln Center, Ailey Citigroup Theater, Bryant Park SummerStage, 92nd St. Y, Booking Dance Festival Edinburgh, and John Jay Theater, performances through the Brooklyn Arts Council, and ongoing classes and workshops through the year. Your continuous support enables us to spread our mission as a contemporary dance company to capture and communicate universal human encounters through dynamic, purposeful movement.

Lets kick off the New Year at Jazz at Lincoln Center with performances of The Mantises Are Flipping (P.S. I’ll have whatever they’re having) and No One Gets Out of Here Alive as a part of APAP, Booking Dance Festival NYC!! We are performing as a part of Jodi Kaplan’s Boutique Roster!

FRIDAY EVENING, JANUARY 10th 2014 at The Allen Room

Bodystories: Teresa Fellion Dance Holiday Benefit Party

THANK YOU FOR CELEBRATING 2013 WITH US!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support Bodystories: Teresa Fellion Dance. Thank you to our dancers, musicians, Board of Directors, silent auction artists, interns, and volunteers! The night was fantastic because of all of you! The dances were beautiful, music was rockin’ and it was nothing but fun throughout the evening! There were selections of unique pop-up performances of our latest material and a variety of improvisational dance pieces. We were also happy to share a preview performance of The Mantises Are Flipping (P.S. I’ll have whatever they’re having) that we will be performing at Jazz at Lincoln Center. This was a lovely event to meet new and old friends, catch up with company members and party it up!

You can see view more photographs of the party by accessing our Facebook page!

We had live dance performances by Corey Bliss, Meghann Bronson, Celine D’Hont, Sarah Hillmon, Julia Jurgilewicz, Monica Mordaunt, Lindsey Ridgeway, Audrey Rachelle, Stanley, Koryn Wicks and Sam Wong. Live music by Joseph Haines, Orin Kurtz, Michael Sultan and Simone Jehangir. We want thank people’s generous donation and auction. Congratulations on people who won our donations. Thanks for your attention and supports for the last year and we will continue our tour in contemporary dance in 2014!

On December 15th, we hosted the Winter party in Red Bean Studio. People enjoy their foods and drinks between the performances. The cheese, chili soup and hand-made cake is especially popular. Besides, we are happy that people also enjoyed talking with each other and know some new friends. Our dancers performed the mantises is flipping, which we have performed in Jazz at Lincoln Center and booking festival in Edinburg. The close distance between audience and dancers make our performance extremely infectious. When the performance started, all people are silent suddenly and focus on the performance. The whistle, the movement and communication in the performance involve everyone into the ambiance of our dance. Not everyone is familiar with contemporary dance, but everyone enjoyed our performance with involvement of performance. When it is close to the end of the party, Simone sang some her favorite songs. Her beautiful voice warm our hearts in such a cold night.

Screen Shot 2014-01-11 at 12.36.36 AMBefore the party starts, many people gathered in the hallway and discussed how the party would be like. Then the door opened. Everyone felt surprise and happy about those cute stickers and the way those chairs arranged, which created the best chatting atmosphere for the party. As far as I am concerned, the most memorable part is the impromptu warm-up. Dancers stretched their bodies around the space thus stirred the sweet-scented air in the studio. It seems that not only the performers were dancing, the chairs, the foods, the lights, the curtains and, of course, our audiences. With the romantic melody, one after another stories were told by bodies and the listeners were led to the palace of dance. After the improve dance, all the magic factors (the band, the Mantises, the live music, the silent auction, the food, etc.) work together to made it a cheerful party and Dec. 15 a great day.
