Works: p u r p l e f l a m e

p u r p l e f l a m e is a work that explores the strength of human resilience through the perspective of an individual and of a community more broadly. It specifically explores the challenge of navigating personal health challenges and navigating the journey of finding strength and adaptability within times of vulnerability. The choreographic inspiration for this work arose within a free movement rehearsal space. In p u r p l e f l a m e, fluidity and buoyancy act as thematic anchoring points as dancers allow themselves to fall freely through space. The work investigates personal intuition and group support, illustrating the depth and complexity of each person’s lived experiences and state of being.
In creating her piece p u r p l e f l a m e, Teresa Fellion found it fascinating how the movement spoke to her. Rather than deciding on a specific theme, she allowed the work to spiral freely. Teresa experienced numerous stops and starts in her health journey, feeling as if her body was in a perpetual waiting game. To overcome this stuck energy, she moved with it rather than against it, which allowed her to feel harmony and release tension.
Following the guidance of the movement led to a positive experience, resulting in interesting pathways and connectivity between the movement, the dancers, and herself. Additionally, through meditation and evoking the purple flame, which is believed to bring healing energy, she deepened the healing and transformative aspects of her journey.
The work is choreographed by Teresa Fellion. It features dancers Emanuele Fiore, Natalia Sanchez,Gracen Nelson, Eddie Stockton, and Arianna Stendardo.
